We are looking for Trainee Traffic Management Operatives for agency work supporting highway maintenance and roadworks schemes in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

No previous Traffic Management experience is essential. Nationally recognised training will be provided to successful candidates, helping you develop the skills needed to work safely alongside experienced operatives.

About the work

You’ll work as part of a team helping to install, maintain and remove temporary traffic management arrangements, keeping road users, pedestrians and roadworks teams safe.

As your training and experience develop, duties may include:

• Setting out and removing signs, cones and barriers

• Supporting temporary traffic signal operations within your training and authorisation

• Checking traffic management equipment and reporting issues

• Helping maintain safe pedestrian routes around works

• Following site instructions and working alongside experienced operatives

This is outdoor, physical work in different weather conditions. Assignments may involve day shifts, nights and weekends, with locations and hours depending on the scheme.

What you’ll need

To apply, you must:

• Hold a clean, valid driving licence

• Be available to work nights and weekends

• Be able to travel to the locations required for your assignments

• Be comfortable with outdoor, physical work

• Be reliable, punctual and willing to learn

• Follow safety instructions and work well within a team

Previous experience is welcome but not essential. If you hold any of the following, please include them in your application:

• Traffic Management qualifications, such as TTMBC, T1/T2, NHSS 12AB or 12D

• NRSWA or Signing, Lighting & Guarding qualifications

• A valid CSCS card

• Conflict Management or SIA Door Supervisor training

• Relevant highways, construction or site experience

Training and screening

Successful candidates will receive the Traffic Management training required for their initial role. Further training opportunities may become available as you gain experience and suitable work arises.

You must meet the required Drug & Alcohol screening requirements before starting work. Any medical requirements and full induction instructions will be explained during recruitment.

Pay and opportunities

Your starting rate and any applicable shift rates will be confirmed during recruitment. Existing Traffic Management qualifications and relevant experience will be considered when discussing available roles and pay.

Agency assignments vary according to client requirements. Our team will explain the expected hours, location and duration of available work before you accept an assignment.
